Gallifrey 21!

Here are some photos from last weekend’s Gallifrey 21 convention, held at the beautiful LAX Marriott, oooh.  Actually it was a lot of fun.  I was exhausted for most of the con, and I only made it to one and a half panels (seriously, how pathetic is that), but got to meet lots of lovely people during lobbycon, which is really what it’s all about!

There was…

Katy Manning

Katy Manning, who is just about the sweetest, most blitz woman I’ve ever met.  We’ve sworn to get into lots of trouble next time we meet up. <3

Tony Lee

The incredible Mr. Tony Lee, who skipped across the room to meet me, but was otherwise well-behaved as he is now in pre-marriage mode.  Yay Tony!

Rob Nick Sparrow

Nick Briggs, who I met at TARDIS, but never actually got to have a conversation with, and as always, Rob Shearman, who has become quite a good friend.

Second Doctor

This was the first, and almost definitely the last masquerade I’ve entered, it was a fairly harrowing experience for little to no reward, but hey…  I went as the Second Doctor, as a 20’s Flapper, and nobody recognized me, hooray!

Silas TARDIS
Finally, I want to alert you all to a new tradition — the Saturday Night TARDIS PJ party!  Whoo hoo!  Wear your jammies like it’s 1999!  Or something.  Yanno.

Chicago TARDIS – Delgado!Master

Oh no!  Our heroine has been hypnotized by the Master!  What will become of her?  Will the Doctor arrive in time to save her?  Tune in tomorrow to find out!

Chicago TARDIS – Big Finish!

I think my subconscious and I need to have a chat…

Last night I dreamt that Anthony Ainley and I were having tea.  He was charming, lovely, and we were having the most fascinating conversation about the construction of his gloves.  Black satin, with fabulous little box pleats along the back of the hand, in four groups of four.

I have the Master all to myself, and what do I do?
I ask him about his costume.

What. Is. Wrong. With. Me?!

Oh wow…

Rodarte

These photos from the latest Rodarte show are absolutely gorgeous.
The clothing is fairly fantastic, but I’d wear any of it.  More at Fashionologie.

Oh good grief…

At some point in the last two months I seem to have fallen into cosplaying.  It started with seeing a girl at SDCC and saying to myself, “Oh, I think I might like to make a costume like that, only a little different…”

Now, I’ve got at least half a dozen costumes seriously planned in at least three fandoms.  Once my Steampunk TARDIS is put together, I’m thinking Emma Peel.  Thank goodness British TV is reasonably, well, low budget.

There’s always the film stuff, too.  Who wouldn’t want to play at being the Sheik, or the Thief of Baghdad?  Of course, the last time I tried to do the Thief, I realized I’d need to hand-screen the fabric for the pants.

I’m just glad I’m not super keen on anime, those costumes are nigh impossible to replicate.  Though, well, I would rather like a Ghost in the Shell costume.  AUGH.  Stop, brain, stop.  Just stop now.

This is insane.  I can hardly sew buttons.  What is wrong with me?

…and WTF is up with this sudden desire to wear spandex?  HELP ME.

Support your local…

I’m getting to support lots of individual artisans in putting together my costume, and I’m really enjoying it.  It’s a small thing, but it feels good!

My underbust is coming from AnnaLadyMoon in a blue-grey stripe, or at least will be, if she doesn’t get entirely frustrated with my ability to completely confuse horizontal and vertical.  Oops.  Either way, it’ll be lovely.

The hat, which is critical, is in the works from Noxenlux Chapeaux.  I’m not much of a hat person, but she comes highly recommended.  I hope she sends me a sketch soon, I’m incredibly curious as to what she’s got planned.

Also curious to see what ByGaslight is going to whip up for me to use as “stained glass” accents for the skirt and coat.  I’ve given her a general idea, but it’ll be her design.  I just love the way her stuff looks.

Very excited about a pair dove grey lace gloves from Skywatcher112 on their way to me right now.  She had them finished in two days!   Handmade lace gloves!  How incredibly fabulous.  I simply cannot wait for them to arrive!

…and not really for the costume, but I’m also anxiously checking the mail for the Dalek glass bead kalliope_kheru made for me.  I think he’ll make an awesome little necklace, or a watch fob, perhaps.  Lots of personality.
