Things that go bump in the night…

…shamelessly stolen from @flatlinejack.

The Gallopin’ Gaucho!

Absolutely fabulous parody of Doug Fairbanks’ The Gaucho, from Walt Disney, 1928.

Banksy VS King Robbo

Banksy has filmed “the world’s first street art disaster movie” which will be debuting at this year’s Sundance.  I’m rather excited to see it, actually.  He’s a bit of a nut, but nonetheless I’m quite fond of Banksy.  King Robbo, on the other hand, isn’t, and has defaced one of Banksy’s works, essentially declaring war.  Wonder how that will play out…

Keeping up with the Joneses?

Doug and Jessie Jones

Went to a screening of “My Name is Jerry” this evening, which is great by the way.  It’s well made, has a very sweet story, and is really just a cute little film all around.  It’s on the festival circuit right now, and should be coming out on DVD soon.  I totally recommend it.

While I was there I caught up with the always awesome Doug Jones, who was there with family, including his fantastic niece Jessie…  and yes, they really are that tall.  (I’m 5’1.)

It was an excellent night.  I always enjoy going to screenings of Doug’s latest films, because the people who show up all tend to be friends and fans of his, and somehow he just attracts wonderful people.  Even better, he’s great about introducing everyone, so you’re never at a loss for someone interesting to chat with — I usually end up hanging around for hours after!

Anyway, home now, and to bed soon, methinks, before I turn into a pumpkin…

“Suck”

…yeah, that’s what I’d call my vampire movie too.  Still.  It’s got Alice Cooper, Moby, Iggy Pop, Henry Rollins, AND Malcolm McDowell!!!

I DESPERATELY WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE.

A true story…

Saw The Men Who Stare At Goats the other day, and really enjoyed it.  I’m curious as to what the general public thinks about the movie — I’m not a fair judge, I grew up with people who went to secret meetings in the clouds over the mountains of Tibet…  No, really.

The audience seemed more puzzled than amused, and at times a bit unnerved, so I suspect that if you’re not already familiar with that sort of happy weirdo, it’s just a bizarre little movie about strange people taking drugs and doing ridiculous things for no apparent reason.

Ah well.  If you were already interested, go see it.  It’s fun, and Jeff Bridges is a riot.

All the day, and all of the night… Pirate Radio!

“When a movie is called ‘searingly honest,’ it’s almost invariably grim and demonstrates how bad things can get.  Richard Curtis (the director) likes to try to make a searingly honest movie that tells you how good things can be.” LA Times interview with Bill Nighy

Pirate Radio isn’t really a film about music, though the soundtrack is exquisitely chosen and ever present; it’s a film about people who love music…  It’s about how perfect life can be when you let it take you where it will, and it’s replete with that joyous creative harmony, that amazing synergy of people coming together for a common cause.  It’s really a lovely film.

Go see it!  I promise, you will love it.
